Official says the rest of summer likely to be more temperate

GAYLORD, MI (MPRN)--   Michigan residents may have made it through the hottest summer days this year.

Forecasts for the rest of July and August show cooler temperatures for much of the state.

Parts of the state had reached temperatures of well over 90 degrees, which is higher than normal, especially for northern Michigan.

Aaron Mayhew is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gaylord.

“June, July, August is the three summer months, and that takes us almost to the halfway point and you know we’re still going to be looking to be either near normal or slightly below all the way through there, so those hot, sticky, 90 degree days look like they could be behind us this year,” he says.

Mayhew says that being said, it’s not uncommon to have warm patches move through the state in August and September.

He says Michigan is always a bit of a wild card, but people can expect cooler temperatures in the 70s and 80s through much of the rest of summer.
