Lake Linden fire displaces residents

LAKE LINDEN, MI--   The Lake Linden Village Police Department is investigating an apartment fire at 118 Second Street.

The fire was reported on Christmas Eve at 5:14 a.m. It’s believed it started in a second-floor apartment. Three people jumped from a second-story bedroom window to escape the fire. They were taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Two other apartment residents and a Lake Linden fireman were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries. They were all treated and released.

A temporary shelter and meeting place was set up for the Red Cross, law enforcement, and those affected by the fire was set up on Calumet Street by Richard and Kim Rak.

The Bootjack Fire Department and First Responders, Hubbell Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department, and Laurium Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.
