SWP gets funding to help households with heating costs

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Superior Watershed Partnership has received $2,460,000 from the Michigan Public Service Commission for heating assistance for low-income households.

The money can be used for heating and electric bills, affordable payment plans and self-sufficiency services. Such services could include energy education, financial counseling, free home energy score assessments and free solar panel installation for up to five qualified households.

The funds will be used in each of the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties.

Michigan Energy Assistance Program grants totaling $54,500,000 went to nine organizations across Michigan for the fiscal year beginning October 1.
