MDOT looking for input on Ishpeming roundabout project

ISHPEMING, MI--   The Michigan Department of Transportation is inviting the public to comment on a planned road project in Ishpeming.

MDOT will replace the signalized intersection of US-41/M-28 and Lakeshore Drive with a roundabout. Officials say as of 2017, that intersection had the highest level of crash severity in the U.P.

The one-year project also involves replacing the pavement and improving the bridge over the Carp River that crosses under the highway just west of the intersection. Streetlights will be installed and a pedestrian crossing will be provided along the east side of the roundabout.

The project is expected to cost $4.3 million. Work is expected to begin in spring 2023 and be completed in fall of that year.
