Officials release name in fatal snowmobile accident

WEST BRANCH TOWNSHIP, MI--   Authorities continue to investigate the death of a Marquette man involved in a snowmobile accident in West Branch Township.

Sheriff’s deputies say Jeffrey Dusseault, 45, had been westbound on Heidtman Road Tuesday around 11 p.m. when the road ended on County Road 545 North.  Dusseault failed to stop at the intersection and to negotiate the turn onto CR 545,  crossed both lanes and struck the snow bank on the western side of the road.  The machine went airborne, striking a tree as it landed.

Dusseault was thrown from the snowmobile and landed near it.  He was later found by family after he failed to arrive at his destination as expected.

Dusseault, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
