Chocolay officer to blame for highway crash

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette City Police are investigating a four-vehicle accident involving a Chocolay Township police officer.

The crash on US-41 South happened Friday around 6 p.m.  Chocolay Officer Anthony Carrick had picked up a juvenile runaway from the Marquette Department and was entering the highway from South Lake Street when he was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Andrew Mlls.  Mill’s vehicle then crossed the centerline and struck a third vehicle driven by Carl Jamison, which struck a fourth vehicle—also southbound—driven by Howard Tobin.

The occupants of the Carrick and Mills vehicles were taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Marquette Police say Carrick failed to yield to oncoming traffic.  There’s no word on whether or not he was ticketed.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
