Electricity relights Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   Power has been restored to the Escanaba area.

That’s according to Electric Department officials, who say a temporary substation was brought online and power returned to all neighborhoods around 5:00 Tuesday morning.  They say one generator is being used instead of the usual four, so they’re asking residents to continue using electricity sparingly until the exploded substation can be fixed.

Delta County Emergency Management Director Bob Berbohm declared a local state of emergency Monday afternoon.  Officials implemented rolling blackouts, giving residents power two hours at a time.  Area schools were closed Monday and Tuesday due to lack of electricity, as were the County Courthouse and several local businesses.

Officials continue to work on a permanent fix.
