Alston accident injures four

LAIRD TOWNSHIP, MI--   Four people suffered minor to serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Houghton County Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies were called around noon to the intersection of M-38 and North Laird Heights Road in Alston.  They say a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old Ann Arbor man was on the highway when he lost control, drove onto the shoulder, and hit a parked truck in a yard.

The driver sustained scrapes and bruises.  His three passengers were taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital.  Two were later released, while the third was transported to UP Health System Marquette with unknown injuries.

Officials say neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
