Escanaba woman injured in Ford River Township accident

FORD RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was seriously injured in a traffic crash in Delta County. 

Sheriff’s deputies say it happened Sunday around 10:54 p.m. in Ford River Township near the Highland 

Golf Course.  A vehicle driven by a 54-year-old Escanaba woman was eastbound on US-2/41 when it crossed the centerline and struck a westbound vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Bark River man.  The eastbound vehicle overturned and struck several trees. 

Officers used the Jaws of Life to extricate the woman from her car.  She was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, then transferred to UPHS Marquette for treatment.  The other driver was treated at St. Francis Hospital and released. 

The accident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted on scene by the Escanaba Department of Public Safety, the Ford River Volunteer Fire Department, Ford River EMS, and Rampart. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
