Anglers become stranded on iceberg in AuTrain

AUTRAIN, MI--   Two teenagers had to be rescued Tuesday night when ice they were fishing on broke away near the AuTrain River.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office says Donald Tucker, 17, and Waylon Rondeau, 18, were on the ice in AuTrain just before 9 p.m. when a chunk broke off and started floating away from shore.

Someone called 911 to report the situation.

The Alger County Rescue 21 Unit, AuTrain Fire Department, and Alger County EMS responded to the scene. A Rapid Deployment Craft manned by three rescuers was launched from shore. Tucker and Rondeau were rescued without injury.

The Sheriff’s Office is cautioning people about ice conditions, which will deteriorate with changing weather.
