Germfask Township crash critically injures driver

GERMFASK TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was seriously injured in a Schoolcraft County crash Thursday.

Michigan State Police from the Manistique Outpost were dispatched around 6:10 a.m. to M-77 just north of the Seney Wildlife Refuge in Germfask Township. They say the vehicle was southbound when it left the

roadway, went into the ditch and rolled over multiple times.

Troopers found the male driver breathing but not responsive. He was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, then airlifted to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey. The driver is currently in critical condition.

Officials say alcohol, cannabis and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted by MSP St. Ignace, MSP Gladstone, Manistique and Luce EMS, and Germfask and Seney Township First Responders.  The Schoolcraft County Road Commission also assisted with traffic control.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
