Victims of fiery Marquette Township crash identified

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials have released the names of the two people killed in a single-vehicle crash on County Road 550 Saturday morning.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says Candice Marie Rajala, 41, of Marquette and Eric Joseph Roycraft, 49, of Wrightstown, Wisconsin, both died when their Tesla left the roadway and hit a power pole shortly before 1 a.m. The vehicle came to rest by the tree line and caught on fire.

Police say alcohol and excessive speed appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
