Driver involved in Ontonagon County crash dies of injuries

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI— A driver involved in a two-vehicle crash in Ontonagon County on Saturday has succumbed to his injuries.

Troopers from the Wakefield Post say it happened on US-45 near Military Hill. A 20-year-old Ontonagon County man was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment, but he died on Sunday.

The other driver, a 21-year-old Ontonagon County man, fled the scene. He later turned himself in to authorities and is being interviewed about the incident.

The suspect is being held in jail on unrelated charges while officials complete the investigation and send it to the Ontonagon County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
