Truck crashes into Chevy Traverse in Skandia Township

SKANDIA TOWNSHIP, MI— Five people were sent to the hospital after a crash in Skandia Township Monday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 2:50 p.m. on US-41 South at Selma Road.

A 74-year-old Marquette man was crossing the highway from M-94 to Selma Road in a pickup truck when he struck a northbound Traverse. The northbound vehicle was occupied by two women and two children in car seats. The Traverse rolled into the ditch and came to rest on the driver’s side.

All five people were taken to UPHS-Marquette for evaluation.

The Marquette man was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
