Vehicle spins out near Marquette ski hill on slushy road

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI— No serious injuries are reported from a single-vehicle accident in Marquette County Monday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies responded around 9:10 a.m. to M-553 at Glasses Curve, just south of the ski hill. They say a 42-year-old Marquette woman was southbound in an SUV when she lost control of the vehicle on slushy and icy roads. It hit a guardrail on the west side of the road, spun, and ended up on its side in the northbound lanes of travel.

The driver was not injured in the crash.

M-553 was closed for about an hour while emergency crews cleared the area.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Marquette City Police Department, Michigan State Police, Marquette Township Fire, Sands Township First Responders, the Marquette County Road Commission, Marquette Detailing, and witnesses.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
