Ontonagon man loses life in single-vehicle accident

ONTONAGON, MI— An Ontonagon man was killed when a car he was a passenger in hit a tree last week.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office says Thursday around 11:30 p.m. a 36-year-old Ontonagon resident was northbound on Norwich Road just south of Domitrovich Road when the vehicle left the roadway. It traveled through the ditch nearly 400 feet, hit a tree, and came to rest facing in the opposite direction.

The driver had to be extracted from the vehicle. They were taken to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger, Brennan Sharlow, 33, of Ontonagon, sustained fatal injuries.

The vehicle was totaled.

Officials say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
