Two vehicles collide in Sands Township

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI— A two-vehicle crash at the Crossroads in Marquette County injured one person Thursday.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 1 p.m. to the intersection of County Road 480 and M-553. They say a 19-year-old Gwinn resident and 73-year-old Negaunee resident were stopped at the intersection in their vehicles. Due to a high volume of traffic, both drivers proceeded into the intersection at the same time. The drivers said they didn’t see each other.

The Gwinn driver hit the Negaunee resident’s vehicle on the passenger side, and the SUV tipped over onto the driver’s side.

Employees of a nearby business and other drivers helped the man out through the rear hatch of his vehicle. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The Gwinn driver was not injured.

The crash remained under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
