FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI— A plane had to make an emergency landing near Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport Friday morning.
The Marquette County Sheriff's Office says around 11:09 a.m., a Piper Tri-Pacer aircraft flown by Ryan Graves, 32, of Munising, was on its way to the airport from Munising for scheduled maintenance. Graves started experiencing engine issues and told Sawyer's tower he couldn't make it safely to the airport. His only option was to land on M-94 near Scorpion Road.
The plane was escorted from the highway to the airport by airport personnel, Forsyth Township Police, and Sheriff's Office personnel.
Neither Graves nor the passenger, Mark Krumanaker, 65, of Huntington, IN, sustained injuries.
Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport Aircraft Rescue Firefighters were assisted by the Forsyth Township Fire Department, Forsyth Township EMS, Forsyth Township Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, and Kubick Aviation Services.
Assistant Airport Manager Bradley Wheeler said all agencies responded as trained and assisted in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.
