Humboldt Township man injured in pickup accident

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Humboldt Township Thursday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at 2:23 p.m. to US-41 about a half-mile east of Wolf Lake Road.

A 79-year-old Humboldt Township man was driving a pickup when he apparently had a medical issue that caused him to black out momentarily. The truck went down an embankment, struck a power pole, then hit several trees. The pole snapped, but didn’t come down.

The driver was wearing a seat belt. Two people who witnessed the accident helped him out of the vehicle before first responders arrived. He was taken to UPHS-Bell for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Due to the location of the vehicle, several trees had to be cut down to remove the vehicle.

Assisting at the scene were Michigan State Police, the Humboldt Township Fire Department, UPHS-EMS, WETASA First Responders, and Anttila’s Towing Service.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
