Two people killed in Marinette County accident

GROVER, WI— Two people lost their lives in a two-vehicle crash in Marinette County Sunday.

Sheriff Randy Miller says it happened around 1 p.m. on County Highway B at County Highway W in the town of Grover.

A vehicle driven by Scott Mathis, 46, of Pembine was southbound on W when he failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign. His vehicle hit an eastbound vehicle driven by Elysia Kust, 44, of Coleman, Wisconsin. Both she and her passenger—73-year-old Mary Kust of Coleman—sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

Inattentive driving and failure to stop at a stop sign appear to be factors in the incident, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
