Woman extricated from vehicle after Houghton traffic crash

HOUGHTON, MI— A Pennsylvania woman was trapped in her vehicle following a crash in Houghton Tuesday.

City Police say it happened around 4:30 p.m. on M-26 at 4th Street. The 22-year-old woman was westbound on the highway when she turned left onto 4th Street. She turned into the path of an eastbound vehicle driven by a 41-year-old woman from Dollar Bay who had three passengers.

The Hurontown Jaws of Life were used to extricate the Pennsylvania driver from her vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock Police Department, Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services, and the Houghton Fire Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
