Pickup driver fails to switch lanes, hits tractor-trailer in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Marquette Township Monday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 9:40 a.m. on US-41 near Northwoods Road. A 55-year-old Negaunee man was westbound in a Ram pickup truck when he rear-ended a tractor trailer driven by a 27-year-old Marquette man.

The passenger of the pickup became entrapped and needed to be extricated from the vehicle. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Negaunee man was cited for careless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Michigan State Police, Marquette Township Fire/EMS, UPHS EMS, Crossroads Towing, and Marquette Detailing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
