Woman suffers serious injuries when her vehicle hits mining truck in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI— One person was seriously injured when a car hit a mining truck in Negaunee Saturday night.

City Police say it happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Teal Lake Avenue and US-41.

A 57-year-old woman was northbound on Teal Lake Avenue in a BMW when she failed to stop at the intersection and struck a VanDamme mining truck driven by a 59-year-old man. The truck became stuck on the driver’s side.

The woman was taken to UPHS-Marquette with serious injuries. The truck driver was not seriously injured.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

US-41 was closed for several hours while officials investigated the scene.

EGLE and Van Damme Trucking were called in to clean up a large fuel spill.
