Truck waiting for school bus in Iron River rear-ended by vehicle

IRON RIVER, MI— Three people suffered minor injuries in a traffic crash near the Bates School in Iron River last week.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Thursday around 7:20 a.m. on US-2.

A school bus, lights activated, was stopped in the eastbound lane to pick up a child. A Ford F-150 driven by a 48-year-old Bates Township woman was stopped in the westbound lane in observance of the bus’s lights when she was rear-ended by a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 63-year-old Bates Township woman.

The driver of the Pathfinder and her passenger, a 50-year-old Bates Township woman, were taken to Aspirus Iron River Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the truck went to the hospital by private transportation, also for minor injuries.

The driver of the Pathfinder was cited for careless driving.

None of the occupants of the school bus were involved.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the West Iron County Fire Department, Aspirus Medvac, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and Northland Towing.
