Fatal Rudyard Township crash kills one

RUDYARD TOWNSHIP, MI— A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Chippewa County Thursday afternoon.

Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post say it happened around 1:30 p.m. in Rudyard Township.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Subaru failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a UPS truck.

The driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries and was arrested and lodged in jail, pending prosecutor review. Two passengers in the Subaru were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. CPR was performed at the scene on a third female passenger. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The UPS driver was not injured.

No names have been released, pending notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
