Ishpeming Township crash injures on person

ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, MI— An Ishpeming man was cited for reckless driving, following a two-vehicle crash in Ishpeming Township Friday.

The Ishpeming Township Police Department says it happened around 12:10 p.m. on US-41 near North Lake Drive. A pickup driven by 29-year-old Richard Hendra, Jr. of Ishpeming tried to pass another vehicle utilizing the center lane. He lost control while passing, crossed into oncoming traffic, and struck a westbound vehicle in the passing lane driven by 29-year-old Taylor Nelson of Superior, Wisconsin.

Nelson was taken to UPHS-Bell for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Hendra was not injured.

Hendra was found to be at fault in the accident and ticketed for reckless driving.

US-41 was shut down for about 20 minutes.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office, Ishpeming City Police Department, Ishpeming Township Fire Department, and UPHS-Bell EMS assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
