One injured in Marquette crash

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette resident was injured in a two-vehicle crash in the city Thursday.

Around 10:40 a.m., the Marquette Police Department responded to the intersection of Grove Street and Forest Park Drive.

Officers say a Pontiac passenger vehicle was southbound on Forest Park when it failed to stop at the stop sign at Grove. It went through the intersection and was struck by a westbound Jeep SUV.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 78-year-old Marquette resident, was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old Marquette resident, refused treatment at the scene.

Preliminary information suggests the Pontiac driver suffered a medical episode, which led to the crash.

The Marquette Fire Department and UPHS-EMS assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
