FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI— The Forsyth Township Police Department is supplying details about the drowning of a teenage boy on Wednesday, July 30.
Township Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to Mehl Lake on a report of a possible drowning.
Officials say a group of teenage boys had been swimming from the shore of the lake to a floating raft that was 50 to 60 yards out. At some point the victim became distressed and went underwater for several minutes.
The victim’s friends found him and pulled him to shore. They and a resident who witnessed the incident began lifesaving actions and summoned help.
Immediate resuscitation efforts were performed by emergency personnel upon arrival, but the boy couldn’t be revived.
Police Chief Brian Kjellin said, “On behalf of the Forsyth Township Police & Emergency Services Team, I would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the family during this difficult time. We stand alongside them and the community as they navigate this tremendous loss.”
