Elderly man rear-ended by 17-year-old driver in Delta County dies of his injuries

DELTA COUNTY, MI— An Escanaba man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Delta County Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 12:09 p.m. to US-2&41 near the Highland Golf Course. Investigation indicates a westbound vehicle driven by an 81-year-old man was stopped on the highway, waiting to make a left turn into the golf course. Another westbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Gladstone woman failed to stop and rear-ended the first vehicle.

The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The woman sustained minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
