CALUMET, MI— A medical issue is suspected to be the cause of death for a driver who hit two garages in Calumet over the weekend.
Michigan State Police responded Sunday around 3:53 p.m. to an incident on School Street near Hecla Street. Preliminary investigation indicates a pickup was eastbound on School Street when the driver experienced a medical emergency. The truck left the road and hit an attached garage on the north side of the street. The driver then put the vehicle in reverse and struck another attached garage on the south side of the street.
A trooper and first responder attempted medical treatment, including CPR, on the driver, who was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw. The 50-year-old Calumet man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
