Marquette – The Presque Isle Park Advisory Committee has named its high-priority projects for 2005. Working in conjunction with the city of Marquette, the group recently met to plan group tasks for the coming 12 to 24 months. Officials say making a recommendation to the city on the Island erosion study tops the list. Parks and Recreation Director Hugh Leslie reports other significant issues include further construction on the pedestrian pathway... informational signage... a proposal to change park hours... and animal control. Leslie notes the group is looking at an endowment, fundraising and donations to supply money for some of the projects since, because of state budget cuts, Marquette simply cannot provide all needed funds. Leslie says the city is looking at cutting back on little-league field improvements and the possible elimination of summer ice at Lakeview Arena. He adds Marquette will also be cutting back on general city-wide overtime and snow-plowing this winter.
