Problem Gamblers Getting Younger in Wisconsin

By Lynn Fuller

Madison, WI – According to a state organization that tries to help people fight their gambling addiction, problem-gamblers are getting younger. College students are among the growing high-risk groups. The Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling says from 2003 to 2004, calls increased 13 percent. Executive Director Rose Gruber says that among Wisconsin residents, 265,000 people are problem gamblers, which includes about ten percent of the state's teenagers. Gruber says things to pay attention to as a parent or friend include depression, anxiety and slumping grades. Missing money and maxed-out credit cards are also signs.
