Marquette, MI – The Marquette General Health System Board of Trustees has approved the purchase of an Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy system. The system will be used in radiation therapy to treat cancer patients. IMRT is a treatment that shapes or conforms radiation beams to the size, configuration and location of a tumer while minimizing the impact on surrounding healthy tissue or organs. Marquette General has invested over $500,000 for the IMRT software and hardware. Several key benefits include lower complication rates, increased dosing, better tumor coverage, improved cure rates, and the ability to treat targets simultaneously.
