MTU Board of Control votes to purchase property for new Seaman Mineral Museum

Houghton, MI – Michigan Technological University's Board of Control has approved the purchase of property to be the new site of the Seaman Mineral Museum. The property, located north of the Quincy Mine Hoist of the Keweenaw National Park on U.S. 41 in Hancock, will be purchased for $2,000. The museum will include the old Quincy Mine blacksmith and machine shops and a service center for visitors and administrative offices. Construction is slated to begin next year on what is estimated to be a $15 million project.
The museum is currently located on the 5th floor of the Electrical Energy Resources Center at MTU.
