Escanaba, MI – Community leaders, educators, and laborers from across the Upper Peninsula gathered in Escanaba earlier this month to identify challenges they face in workforce development. Michigan Works! Director of Strategic Projects Candice Elders says some of the bigger problems are young college graduates leaving the area to world elsewhere. She says they also looked at ways to keep the elderly in the workforce, and at improving customer service skills. Elders says her office has to work hard to keep up with these kinds of needs. Michigan Works! Will compile information gathered at the meeting to formulate a five-year plan to help local businesses to cultivate their workforce.
