Marquette, MI – The Marquette City Commission has unanimously approved a payment in lieu of taxes agreement with an area senior housing facility. The facility, Snowberry Heights, is being sold into a cooperative management between the Alger-Marquette Community Action Board and Ohio-based Millenia Housing. Commissioner Joseph Lavey says a PILT agreement is not unusual in this kind of transaction. He adds that the agreement won't change the taxable income that has come to the city of Marquette in previous years. Lavey says he is unsure when the closing on the sale will take place but that it will not change the way the facility operates. He says seniors on a fixed income may apply for and receive housing at a subsidized rate.
