Hancock woman pleads to embezzlement

Marquette, MI – A Hancock woman has pleaded guilty to embezzlement in federal court. 36-year-old Susan Lynn Gregg was employed at the Michigan Education Association's office in Hancock from 1998 through 2005. She is accused to falsifying documents and forging signatures on a $29,000 loan application she submitted on behalf of the Copper Country Education Association. Gregg also admitted to applying for two other fraudulent loans, drafting $178,000 worth of fraudulent checks on a CCEA account, drafting another $40,000 in checks on an MEA account, and fraudulently applying for two credit cards on behalf of the CCEA. As part of a plea agreement, Gregg is charged with Making False Statements on a Bank Loan Application, which is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Sentencing is set for November in U.S. District Court in Marquette.
