Lansing. MI – Governor Jennifer Granholm has declared October Child Support Month in Michigan. The state disburses $1.38 billion in child support each year. Department of Human Services Director Marianne Udow says children are the top priority of the department, and improvements to the child support program make life better for Michigan families. About 435,000 of the 584,000 children received the support owed to them in 2005. The department maintains an online lookup for parents who haven't updated their addresses to find unclaimed funds and by January 2007, all payments will be electronically deposited to recipients' bank accounts.
