U.P. man accused of stealing identity

By ASSOCIATED PRESS

UNDATED – A convicted sex offender from the Upper Peninsula has been accused of trying to steal the identity of a dead infant so he could move to Oregon without registering as a sex offender. Bradford Storti of Rock is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Lansing District Court on charges of Identity Theft, Forgery and Uttering and Publishing. If convicted, he could face up to 14 years in prison.
Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox says Storti requested the birth certificate of John Slapp from the Vital Records Office in January. The written request included copies of a fraudulent Oregon driver's license, two credit cards and a Social Security card, all in Slapp's name. A state worker later discovered that the infant had died in 1972.
