New House speaker says he has big plans for economy

By Associated Press

Lansing, MI – The Michigan House of Representatives has its first Democratic speaker in more than 100 years. Andy Dillon takes over as Speaker of the state house at a time when Michigan manufacturers are struggling. The government is also strained for the resources necessary to fund schools, health care and other services. Dillon, who used to assist businesses struggling for success, says he knows what's needed to turn around the state's economy. He says dealing with budget concerns and replacing the revenue from the single business tax are among his top priorities.
