Luce County, MI – The Sleeper Lake Fire is 80 percent contained. That's according to DNR officials, who say just over four-tenths of an inch of rain fell on the Luce County fire Wednesday. That gave firefighters and helicopter pilots a break from the lines. County Road 420 and the Chesbrough Lake area remain under evacuation orders, although County Road 407 is open to through traffic.
Officials say rain in the forecast is good news for firefighting efforts. The wildfire has burned and smoldered underground for nearly three weeks.
