UNDATED – It was quite a way to end the hockey season. Marquette Senior High School and Orchard Lake St. Mary's set a record for Michigan's longest high school boys hockey game. St. Mary's scored the tying goal late in the third period of the Division I State High School Championship game in downstate Plymouth on Saturday. The game remained tied at 1-1 after the regulation 45 minutes and after eight extra periods of eight minutes each. Officials then opted to call the game and declare Marquette and St. Mary's co-state champions.
The 109 minutes topped a recent Sault Ste. Marie/Petoskey game that lasted 92 minutes, 34 seconds, with Sault Ste. Marie winning 2-1.
