Michigan Tech purchased a new sound system

By Abbey Kwiatkowski

Houghton, MI – Michigan Technological University has purchased a new carillon system. The new sound system is intended to play music at the top of each hour as well as notify students during emergencies. Jon Ahola is the Tech Director of Public Safety. He says they were not satisfied with the new sound system and are looking to improve it. Ahola says the carillon was not used when threatening notes were found in the ROTC building however, the university is in the process of implementing an emergency cell phone texting system and they hope to have it ready for this summer.
