Marquette, MI – For the third consecutive year, the United States Olympic Education Center at NMU is hosting the Junior Olympic National Boxing Championships. USOEC director Jeff Kleinschmidt says the top 15- and 16-year-olds from across the country will compete. He says there's a good chance the competition will lead to spots on the U.S. Olympic team in the 2012 London games.
The USOEC's resident boxing program closed in December. Kleinschmidt says the fact that the Junior Championships are still being held in Marquette means the USOEC continues to have a strong partnership with USA Boxing. He says USA Boxing is trying to find money to reestablish the resident boxing program at the USOEC.
The Championships begin June 17 and run through the 20th at NMU. For more information, contact the USOEC at 227-2888.
