UNDATED – Michigan State Police troopers are warning the public to be safe on the roads over the 4th of July holiday. Beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, officials will be participating in the annual Operation CARE--or Combined Accident Reduction Effort--traffic safety initiative. Officers say they'll take a zero-tolerance approach to drivers operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and will also be on the lookout for unbuckled motorists.
Operation CARE runs through midnight on Sunday, July 6. There were four fatal traffic crashes resulting in four deaths during the same period last year.
