Handgun policies to change in January

By Nicole Walton

Undated – The Marquette County Sheriff's Department is reminding residents that the process for purchasing a handgun in Michigan will change next month. On January 7 purchasers will not have to bring their pistol to the licensing authority. They will, however, need to complete paperwork and send it to the authority within 10 days of purchase. The amended acts also eliminate the safety inspection process. And purchasers may carry, use, and transport the handgun for 30 days only while they are in possession of a copy of the license to purchase or the pistol sales record.

For a complete list of rules, go to www.legislature.mi.gov, click on Public Acts, enter Act Numbers 194, 195, or 196, and hit Search.
