Attempted robbery at Border Grill in Marquette--suspect sought

By Nicole Walton

Marquette, MI – Marquette Police are searching for a man they say tried to rob the new Border Grill restaurant on Washington Street. Around 6:25 Tuesday morning an employee said she was opening the back door when a man struck her on the head with a beer bottle, demanded money, and pushed her down. The suspect assaulted the victim until she pulled out a cell phone and said she was calling the police. The man then fled on foot toward Baraga Avenue. The suspect is described as 6 feet tall and heavyset, 35 to 40 years old, with a mole or spot under his right eye and dark, shoulder-length greasy hair. He was wearing a black stocking cap, a red and black flannel shirt or jacket, dark pants, and boots. The victim said the man was dirty and had body odor.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of a person matching this description is asked to call police at 228-0400. Officers say he has possibly been hanging around McClellan and Baraga avenues for the past two weeks.
