Man charged in investment scam

Manistique, MI – A Manistique man has been charged in an investment scam. Thirty-one year old Jason Collins was arrested on 6 counts of larceny by conversion over $20,000, 3 counts of larceny by conversion over $1,000, and 6 counts of using computers to commit larceny by conversion. The Newberry Police Department received the initial complain in August of 2006 and the case was later turned over to the Gladstone Post. The 1st complaint was filed by Charles David Dimmer and Mary Gorden, who reported they each had lost more than $100,000 to a private investment club operated by Collins. Collins was arraigned and lodged in the Schoolcraft County jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary examination in district court on April 22nd.
