Automakers receive federal aid

By Associated Press

UNDATED – Michigan is getting more of the federal aid previously promised to help auto workers hurt by the industry's ongoing struggles. A $4.1 million dollar installment was announced Monday by U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis during her visit to Michigan. The money is the last installment of a $6.6 million dollar award from the federal government announced in June 2008. The money can be used to retrain and assist laid-off auto workers for jobs that are in higher demand. Michigan has emphasized restraining auto workers for jobs in the renewable energy industry.
