MPSC issues identity theft consumer alert

By William Beacom

UNDATED – The Michigan Public Service Commission is warning residents that some utilities customers have been the target of attempted identity theft. MPSC officials say some customers have received calls from people trying to get them to divulge credit card or other financial information. They say customers can prevent identity theft by protecting their private information, which can be used to establish utility service without a customer's permission or knowledge.

Advice and information on identity theft can be found online at www.michigan.gov/mpscalerts.
